Local shops in Spartanburg said a community push to spend local this holiday season helped businesses. WYFF News 4 told you last month that a spend local campaign was launched in Spartanburg. It encouraged people to buy their gifts locally because small shops needed support more than ever. “There were people that were coming in who had never even come into our shop before because they were really deciding to take the walk down Main Street and see what we had hear in the Spartanburg community,” outdoor retail specialist at The Local Hiker Katie Martin said. “So I think that made a really big difference.””Just so thankful for the Spartanburg community and how they support small business,” said Lisa Giaimo, Owner of Market on Main. Martin said The Local Hiker saw increased sales during the holiday season compared to last year. “We saw a really big boom in sales this year,” Martin said. “It seems like people were really intentionally shopping small, so that made a big difference for us after a long 2020.”The merchants hope the momentum carries into 2021.
